Random Device Reboots During App Installation
Device unexpectedly reboots when installing or updating apps from App Store, particularly apps over 500MB.
Confirmed by AppleDetailed Description
Users experience sudden device reboots during App Store downloads and installations. The issue occurs most frequently with large apps (500MB+) and appears to be related to memory management during the installation process.
Trigger conditions:
- Installing apps larger than 500MB
- Multiple app updates running simultaneously
- Device storage below 10% free space
- Background app refresh enabled for many apps
Workaround
- Free up storage space (keep at least 15% free)
- Install apps one at a time instead of multiple simultaneously
- Disable Background App Refresh temporarily
- Restart device before installing large apps
- Update apps during off-peak hours when device is idle
Note: Apple is aware of this issue and working on a fix for Beta 4.
Steps to Reproduce
- Open App Store on affected device
- Select a large app (e.g., games over 2GB)
- Tap Install or Update
- Wait for download to reach 80-90%
- Device reboots during installation phase
