How to download and install 3uTools on Windows

Windows is where 3uTools started and where it is most complete. The install takes a few minutes.

Go to the official 3uTools website and download the Windows installer. Avoid mirror sites and "cracked" versions.
Open the downloaded .exe file. If Windows SmartScreen warns you, check that the file came from the official site before choosing More info › Run anyway.
Follow the installer and allow it to install Apple's mobile device drivers when asked. Without them the iPhone will not be detected.
Connect the iPhone with a good cable directly to the computer, not through a hub.
On the iPhone, tap Trust when asked and enter your passcode.

3uTools on Mac

There are macOS builds of 3uTools for Intel and Apple silicon Macs, but the Windows version has historically had the fullest feature set. If a feature you need is missing on the Mac, you can run the Windows version inside a virtual machine such as Parallels Desktop or VMware Fusion with USB passthrough.

On a Mac, though, ask whether you need 3uTools at all. Finder already backs up, restores and updates an iPhone, including restoring an IPSW, without installing extra drivers.

How to back up an iPhone with 3uTools

Make a backup before you flash anything. A restore erases the iPhone, and the backup is the only way to get your data back.

Connect the iPhone and enter its passcode if asked.
Open the Data section and choose Backup/Restore.
Pick a full backup or the data types you want.
Click Back Up Now and keep the cable connected until it finishes.

How to flash firmware with 3uTools

Flashing installs an IPSW, and a full restore wipes the device. It only works with firmware Apple is signing for your model at that moment, which 3uTools shows in its list.

Back up the iPhone.
Open the Flash & JB section and choose Smart Flash.
Select a firmware version that is marked as signed for your device.
Click Flash and follow the prompts.
Do not disconnect the iPhone or let the computer sleep until it finishes.

Right now, an iPhone coming off iOS 27 can only go back to iOS 26.6.1 RC (23G82), the version Apple is signing. Does 3uTools work with iOS 27?

Check the developer's release notes for iOS 27 support before relying on it. Third-party tools often need an update after a major iOS release, and features that read system data, such as battery or parts reports, are the most likely to lag.

Common 3uTools problems and fixes

The iPhone is not detected

Open the iPhone with your passcode and tap Trust if the prompt appears.
Try another cable and a USB port directly on the computer.
Use the driver repair option in 3uTools.
Restart the computer and the iPhone.

The iPhone keeps connecting and disconnecting

The cable is the usual cause, so replace it first. On a desktop PC, try a rear USB port. Turning off USB selective suspend in Windows power options can also stop the loop.

Driver installation fails

Close any other Apple software that is open, run 3uTools as administrator and try again. If it still fails, remove the existing Apple driver components and let 3uTools reinstall them.

A flash fails or the iPhone is stuck in recovery mode

Download the IPSW again, since a corrupted file is a common cause, and confirm it is still signed for your model. Try a different port and cable. If the iPhone stays on the recovery screen, use 3uTools' exit recovery button or restore it with Finder or the Apple Devices app instead. Is 3uTools safe to download?

The installer from the official 3uTools website is the version to use; copies on mirror and download sites may have been modified. Some antivirus tools flag it because it installs device drivers and talks to the iPhone at a low level. The bigger risk is what you do with it: flashing firmware erases the iPhone, so back up first and only flash files you understand.

Is 3uTools free?

Yes. 3uTools is free to download and use, with no subscription. Be wary of any site that asks you to pay for it or for a "premium" key, because that is not how the official tool is distributed. Apple's own options, Finder on a Mac and the Apple Devices app on Windows, are free as well.

Can 3uTools install the iOS 27 beta?

It can flash an IPSW file, but it cannot get around Apple's signing check. A restore only works with firmware Apple is signing for your device at that moment. Can I downgrade iOS with 3uTools?

Only to a version Apple is still signing, which 3uTools marks in its firmware list. Today that is iOS 26.6.1 RC (23G82) for iPhones coming off iOS 27. Can 3uTools remove iCloud Activation Lock?
