How to check if your iPhone supports iOS 27 — complete compatibility guide and device checker
Quick Answer
If you have an iPhone 12 or newer, your iPhone supports iOS 27.

iOS 27 requires the A14 Bionic chip as a minimum. That means every iPhone from the iPhone 12 forward gets the update. The iPhone 11 and older are out. To check your exact model, go to Settings > General > About and look at the Model Name field — or use our device checker below for a full breakdown of which features your specific iPhone will get.

Every September, the same question floods the internet: will my iPhone get the new iOS? With iOS 27, the answer is more nuanced than just yes or no. Your iPhone might get the update but miss out on Apple Intelligence. Or it might technically support iOS 27 but sit right at the edge of the compatibility line where performance trade-offs start to matter.

This guide gives you the complete picture. Not just whether your device is on the list, but what you can actually expect from it once iOS 27 is installed. I've built an interactive checker that shows you exactly which features your specific iPhone model will and won't support, so you know what you're getting before you commit to the update.

Device Compatibility Checker

Select your iPhone from the dropdown below. The checker will show you whether it supports iOS 27, which chip it has, how much RAM is inside, and a complete feature-by-feature breakdown of what you'll get.

How to Find Your iPhone Model

If you're not sure which iPhone you have, here's how to find out in about ten seconds.

    Open Settings

Tap the Settings app on your home screen.

    Tap General, then About

Scroll down in General and tap About. This screen shows all the key details about your device.

    Look at Model Name

The Model Name field tells you exactly which iPhone you have — for example, "iPhone 14 Pro" or "iPhone 12 mini." This is the name you'll use to check compatibility above. You can also see the iOS version currently installed, total storage capacity, and serial number on this screen.

Alternative method: You can also check from the Software Update screen directly. Go to Settings > General > Software Update. Once iOS 27 is released, if your device is compatible, you'll see it listed as an available update. If it doesn't appear, your iPhone isn't supported.

Here's every iPhone ever made and whether it supports iOS 27, organized by chip family. The A14 Bionic is the cutoff — anything below it is out.

    Devices Dropped from iOS 27

The following devices received iOS 26 but will not receive iOS 27. They all share the A13 Bionic chip or older.

If your iPhone was dropped: Your device continues working on iOS 26. Apple will release security patches for one to two years after iOS 27 ships. Your apps will keep functioning normally. For a detailed look at what this means for you, read our guide: Will the iPhone 11 Get iOS 27?

Three Tiers of iOS 27 Support

Not all supported iPhones get the same experience. iOS 27 effectively creates three tiers of functionality based on your hardware.

Tier 1 — Full Features + Apple Intelligence

iPhone 15 Pro and newer. These devices get every single iOS 27 feature: the rebuilt Siri chatbot, AI Writing Tools, Image Playground, Genmoji, notification summaries, smart email categorization, advanced Siri personalization, Liquid Glass 2.0, and all performance improvements. This is the complete iOS 27 experience Apple showcases at WWDC.

Tier 2 — Core Features, No Apple Intelligence

iPhone 12 through iPhone 15 Plus. These devices get the Siri chatbot, Liquid Glass 2.0, Snow Leopard performance improvements, satellite messaging, updated apps, and battery optimizations. They miss all Apple Intelligence features. It's still a meaningful update, especially the stability improvements, but you don't get the AI headline features.

    Tier 3 — Not Supported

iPhone 11 and older. These devices stay on iOS 26 with security patches. They cannot install iOS 27 in any form.

Apple Intelligence — Which Devices Get AI Features?

Apple Intelligence is the most significant feature divide in iOS 27. Here's precisely what requires the A17 Pro chip or newer and what doesn't.

    Frequently Asked Questions

All iPhone 12 models and newer support iOS 27. This includes iPhone 12, 12 mini, 12 Pro, 12 Pro Max, all iPhone 13 models, iPhone SE (3rd gen), all iPhone 14 models, all iPhone 15 models, all iPhone 16 models including 16e, and all iPhone 17 models including 17e. The minimum chip requirement is the A14 Bionic.
Go to Settings, then General, then About. The Model Name field shows your iPhone model. If it's an iPhone 12 or newer, you're good. You can also use our device checker tool at the top of this page for a complete breakdown of which features your specific model supports.
No. The iPhone 11, 11 Pro, 11 Pro Max, and iPhone SE (2nd generation) all use the A13 Bionic chip, which does not meet the A14 Bionic minimum for iOS 27. These devices stay on iOS 26 with continued security patches.
Apple Intelligence requires the A17 Pro chip or newer. Only iPhone 15 Pro, 15 Pro Max, and all iPhone 16 and 17 models get Apple Intelligence. iPhone 12 through iPhone 15 Plus get iOS 27 but without any Apple Intelligence features.
The iPhone 12 with its A14 Bionic chip is the oldest supported device. All four iPhone 12 variants are supported: 12, 12 mini, 12 Pro, and 12 Pro Max.
The iPhone SE 3rd generation (A15 Bionic) gets iOS 27 without Apple Intelligence. The iPhone SE 2nd generation (A13 Bionic) does not get iOS 27 at all. The iPhone 16e (formerly referred to as iPhone SE 4th gen) gets full iOS 27 with Apple Intelligence. The iPhone 17e also gets full support with Apple Intelligence thanks to its A19 chip.
Go to Settings, General, then About. The Model Name shows your device name. The Model Number field shows a code starting with M. You can also find a physical model number printed on the SIM tray or engraved on the back of older models.
Possibly. With six years of updates, the iPhone 12 is at the typical end of Apple's support window. It could be dropped from iOS 28, though this isn't confirmed. Even if iOS 27 is the last major update, security patches will continue for one to two more years.
iPhone 12 series has A14 Bionic, iPhone 13 series has A15 Bionic, iPhone 14 and 14 Plus have A15 Bionic, iPhone 14 Pro series has A16 Bionic, iPhone 15 and 15 Plus have A16 Bionic, iPhone 15 Pro series has A17 Pro, iPhone 16 and 16e have A18, iPhone 16 Pro series has A18 Pro, iPhone 17 and 17 Air have A19, iPhone 17e has A19, and iPhone 17 Pro series has A19 Pro.
No. Apple's update system checks your device's hardware identifier before allowing installation. There is no legitimate way to install iOS 27 on an unsupported iPhone. Third-party tools that claim to bypass this are unreliable and can damage your device.
